Jay Wilson made a post today on the Battle.net site regarding the upcoming changes to patch 1.0.4 and one of them mentioned of adding extra rewards past the level 60 cap. This change alleviates the end-game player who has reached 60 and has nothing more to gain besides item/gold farming. Any experience earned after level 60 will contribute to the player’s “Paragon Level” which will increase stats just like leveling up normally. In addition to that, player’s will also gain an increases in Gold and Magic find by 3% per Paragon level. There will be a total of 100 Paragon levels. So that means once the player reaches Paragon level 100, Magic/Gold find % will be at innate 300% (the new cap) thus eliminating the benefits of stacking magic find on items.
My personal thoughts on this; the team is working hard on improving the end-game content to be more rewarding to the players instead of penalizing them by hefty repair costs. I understand how they want to sustain momentum within the game to ensure strong sales potential for the Diablo 3 expansion.
When designing the game prior to launch, Jay Wilson stated the level cap at 60 for the reason that they didn’t want players to feel like they had to grind for an extended period to attain maximum level. This new Paragon level system contradicts that and tells me that they now changed their mind and want us to keep leveling up. Its still a welcome change but I’ve already played through the game with all the classes and feel like there’s little more to gain from a mundane farming experience to hope I get something worth selling on the RMAH.
